Summary
The FASD program is an intervention for first-time/high-risk mothers ensuring healthy outcomes. Under the supervision of the Integrated Family Services Manager, the FASD Coordinator is responsible for the FASD program's programming, including administrative functions. The FASD Coordinator will strive to raise public awareness and educate the public on FASD issues and act as an advocate for clients and families.
Roles and Responsibilities:
❖ Supervise (oversee) FASD Mentors, which includes;
➔ reflective supervision, one-on-one meetings with each mentor,
➔ Large group supervision - review client files,
❖ Ensure first-time moms who have led a high-risk lifestyle make it to their prenatal appointments.
❖ Raise awareness on FASD through the distribution of monthly newsletters,
❖ Facilitate the monthly Circle of Friends (Parents/Caregiver Support Group) meetings,
❖ Conduct presentations on FASD prevention and intervention for service providers, caregivers, students (MESC schools) and band membership,
❖ Conduct file reviews and refer individuals to existing resources and support services,
❖ Initiate opportunities to work collaboratively with other organizations or agencies in the community,
❖ Organize special events in the community, such as FASD Day, which facilitates social networking,
❖ Conduct presentations for the community wellness programs when invited to present on FASD,
❖ Prepare and submit monthly activity reports,
❖ To be available for one-on-one discussion with parent(s) or family members,
❖ Attend appropriate training whenever required,
❖ Perform other related tasks as required,
❖ Chair AA meetings every Friday (12:00-1:00),
❖ Work as liaison with the Camrose FASD network office for young adults affected with FASD assessments, once completed, assist them with the AISH process.
❖ Input data and statistics on PathDMS database,
❖ Maintain the office when necessary; cook, clean the office and HBMC kitchen.
Qualifications:
★ Post Secondary education, diploma in Human Sciences, Native Studies, Social Work or other related field,
★ Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience working with FASD issues,
★ Must have communication skills, both oral and written (Cree would be an asset),
★ Must have computer skills,
★ Life Skills facilitator training certificate and Sober Lifestyle are essential.
★ Familiar with issues and factors affecting the community and an ability/awareness of the community resources and agencies that can be accessed and referred to
