The County of Wetaskiwin is seeking a full time Patrol / Equipment Operator Reporting to the
Road Maintenance Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for grading,
snowplowing and the general maintenance of local gravelled roads. Other duties include, public
works operations, physical labour, equipment care and maintenance. Current area of operations
will be mainly in the east end of the County, work supporting other areas of the County may be
required. Work hours typically fall between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday with ½ hr
unpaid lunch, but will vary as required, and in accordance with the International Union of Operating
Engineers No. 955 (IUOE) Collective Agreement.
A minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
Heavy equipment operator training is considered an asset.
Understanding of slopes and grades is required.
Roadbuilding and related work are considered an asset.
Construction related safety training is considered an asset.
Possess a valid Alberta driver’s license, with Class 3 preferred, and can provide a clean driver’s
abstract.
A minimum of two (2) years grader operating experience is preferred.
A general background in heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
Must have the physical capability to change/rotate blades, as well as equip various grader
attachments without assistance, perform hand brushing with a chainsaw.
Able to work extended hours as required.
Demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Possess effective communication skills.
The County of Wetaskiwin offers a strong corporate culture with the salary to be in accordance with
the International Union of Operating Engineers Collective Agreement, in the amount of $35.53 to
$39.48 per hour.
