About KKI Kanawemahwasowin Kamik (KKI) is a Neyaskweyahk (Ermineskin) based program for Children and Families. KKI primarily serving Ermineskin Cree Nation and its members and providing programs to strengthen families and prevent involvement of Child Intervention system. KKI integrates Cree traditions, language and elder wisdom into all aspects of its services while providing advocacy and support for Ermineskin families engaged with Child and Family Services.
Summary of Position KKI is looking for a permanent full-time Community Engagement Coordinator who support and assist the Director of Special Projects in planning and executing Nation-focused engagement initiatives, including research, stakeholder consultations, event coordination, and outreach. This role is vital in building relationships with Nation members, stakeholders, and partners while ensuring alignment with KKI’s mission.
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for:
• Serve as primary liaison between the Nation and organization, building trust with members, Elders, stakeholders, and partner organizations
• Plan and facilitate culturally appropriate engagement activities (town halls, workshops, focus groups) to gather nation input
• Conduct research on Nation needs and child wellbeing issues to inform project development
• Conduct research on Nation needs, demographics, and trends to inform project planning and decision-making.
• Assist in environmental scans and current state assessments to inform project planning.
• Develop and analyze surveys, prepare reports/presentations, and document engagement outcomes
• Support special projects by coordinating logistics, timelines, and nation-centered deliverables
• Organize and document Nation events while ensuring cultural protocols are respected
• Assist in drafting funding proposals and securing resources for Nation initiatives
• Maintain accurate records of engagement activities and research findings
• Ensure all materials and processes align with Cree cultural values and traditions
• Provide administrative support including meeting coordination and documentation
• Provide after-hours/on-call support when necessary.
• Participate in cultural events and KKI programs to build trust and promote family well-being.
• Work collaboratively with Ermineskin Cree Nation, KKI Prevention & Wellbeing, Elders, and multidisciplinary teams
• Uphold confidentiality and adhere to KKI policies, privacy laws, and ethical standards.
Required Qualifications The successful candidate’s minimum requirements are:
• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in social sciences, Communications, Community Development, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration or a relevant field
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Nation engagement, or related roles, experience working with Indigenous Nations is an asset
• Experience with proposal writing and knowledge of funding applications is an asset.
• Experience with data systems and software programs, preferably Microsoft 365 Suite
• Prior experience working with the public and organizing events is advantageous
• Strong research and analytical skills with experience in survey development and data interpretation
• Prior public speaking experience is an advantage, and ability to work flexible hours and travel
• Experience working with First Nations or affiliated organizations.
• Valid Class 5 drivers license, access to personal vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record, Drivers Abstract and Child intervention check
