Position: Apprentice Carpenter

Department: Residential Development

Summary of Duties:

Under the direction of the Residential Development Manager, the Apprentice Carpenter will take direction from the Residential Development Manager, Trades Manager, and CMHC Coordinator, to assist in carious tasks related to woodworking, construction and maintenance with learning the trade. They will assist in the maintenance and repairs of residential units also.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting with construction tasks; this involves tasks like measuring, cutting materials, building structures, installing fixtures and finishing

● Assist with repairs and maintenance: help with repairing and renovating existing structures and fixtures

● Using tools and equipment: learn to safely and effectively use a variety of tools. Repairs and maintains hand tools, power tools, saws and other carpentry tools; installs locks, door knobs and other building hardware

● Builds wooden structures such as partitions, building office additions, fences, scaffolds, sheeting and rough carpentry

● Performs hand and bench work in carpentry workshop, operates planers, joiners, drill presses, power saws, sanders and other woodworking machinery

● Maintaining a safe work environment; following safety procedures and keeping the work area clean and organized is a crucial aspect of the role

● Observe safety regulations and wear helmets and other prescribed protective uniforms

● Report promptly any problems or obstacles in the construction process to the foreman or supervisor for early resolution

● Heavy lifting of up to 60 Lbs will occur regularly

● Accomplish and complete daily job accomplishment reports when required

● Clean equipment shop, work site area, etc

● Perform other related duties as requested by the manager

Qualifications:

Minimum Grade 12 Education, GED or Entrance Exam Pass

● Must be willing to apprentice under a Journeyman Carpenter

● Basic Carpentry knowledge

● Any experience and knowledge of safely regulations

● Ability to follow instructions

● Communication and teamwork skills

● Must sign Oath of Confidentiality. Required to be able to maintain confidential information and office information

● Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License

● Must submit a Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check

● May be subject to drug and alcohol testing

Position: Apprentice Plumber

Department: Samson Trades Center

Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Trades Center Manager, the Apprentice Plumber will assist with planning, installing, and servicing plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls, The plumbers may use piping systems to transport water, waste and gases.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Assist the Journeyman Plumber

● Attend to service calls requiring a plumber, as requested by Samson Cree Nation members.

● Sewer backups, leaking pipes, plugged drains and toilets

● Select the type and size of pipe required and measure, cut, thread, bend, clamp, solvent, cement and solder pipe

● Assemble and install valve and fittings

● Join pipe sections and secure them in position

● Test pipe system for leaks

● Install underground sanitary and water piping systems

● Installing sinks, tubs, showers, and water piping systems

● Heavy lifting of up to 60 lbs will occur regularly

● Renovating, maintaining and repairing existing plumbing

● Helps keep a daily list of houses visited, calls completed and materials needed and used

● Perform other related duties as requested by the manager

Qualifications:

● Must have Grade 12 education, GED or passed Trades Entrance Exam

● Must be willing to apprentice if required

● Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License

● Must have a Drivers Abstract, Criminal Record Check, and Child Welfare Check

● Must have own plumbing tools/equipment

● May be subject to drug and alcohol testing

Position: Furnace Truck Operator

Department: Residential Development

Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Residential Development Manager, the Furnace Truck Operator will be responsible for inspecting, cleaning and maintaining heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) duct systems in the Nation’s residential units.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Duct cleaning: perform thorough cleaning of air ducts, vents and filters using specialized equipment like vacuums and mechanical brushes.

● System Maintenance: conduct basic maintenance tasks on HVAC systems, including cleaning furnace components and dryer vents.

● Inspection: inspect duct work for mold, debris buildup, or other issues, identifying potential problems and recommend solutions.

● Customer interaction: communicate with home occupants, explaining the cleaning process, addressing concerns, and providing recommendations for maintaining health indoor air quality.

● Safety compliance: follow safety procedures and protocols when working with equipment and in different environments.

● Record keeping: maintaining accurate records of work performed, client interactions and recommendations made.

● Equipment maintenance: Ensure that tools and equipment, as well as the furnace truck itself, are properly maintained and cleaned.

● Installing water conditioners.

● Perform other related duties as requested by the manager.

Qualifications:

● Minimum Grade 12 Education, GED or Entrance Exam Pass

● Must utilize department cellphone for communication purposes

● Physical fitness

● Comfort in tight spaces

● Customer service skills

● Knowledge of HVAC systems and duct cleaning techniques

Position: C.M.H.C. Administrative Assistant

Department: Residential Development/C.M.H.C. (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation)

Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the C.M.H.C. Coordinator, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for the general office duties and acts as the overall secretary for the C.M.H.C. Department

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Controls the filing system to ensure all documents are files promptly and correctly, ensuring the confidentiality of the files

● Responsible for entering data (houseowner files) into the computer database

● Maintains a log of all incoming and outgoing correspondence, updates a current telephone and address index for all business and individuals with whom S.C.N. C.M.H.C. communicates.

● To consult with the coordinator before acting in areas where C.M.H.C. policy is not clearly defined or in matter involving a departure from established policy and procedure

● Responsible for taking minutes at meetings as per request

● Completes all typing and photocopying as assigned and ensures adequate inventory of office supplies

● Responsible for accounts payable/receivable. The coordinator requires periodic reports and operating summaries.

● Must be willing to take further training with C.M.H.C. as required

● Perform other related duties as assigned by the coordinator or residential development manager.

Qualifications:

● Must have some knowledge of the Cree Language

● Must have strong computer skills ( MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Docs)

● Knowledge of recording minutes

● Knowledge of office procedures and filing systems

● Must have good interpersonal skills

● Must have a keen eye for detail and must possess excellent organizational skills

● Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License

Position: Housing Inspector/Journeyman Carpenter

Department: Residential Development

Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the Residential Development Manager, the Housing Inspector/Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for the inspection of all new housing and general housing repair projects, the Inspector/Journeyman Carpenter will take direction from the Residential Development Manager, Trades Manager and C.M.H.C Coordinator, to assist in various tasks related to woodworking, construction and maintenance. They will also assist in the maintenance and repairs of residential units.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Reports to the Residential Development Manager.

● Performs general house inspections on all housing unit projects

● Assists in the supervision of contractors who are under the new housing and general housing repair projects

● Reports on the progress of jobs, and recommended contract payments when jobs are completed on schedule

● Ensures all work is completed and deficiencies are corrected before releasing hold-back payments for contracts

● Participates in the implementation of policy specifications yearly

● Attend meetings with the manager and general manager as required

● Performs housing unit pre-inspections for submission of the report to ISC

● Performs other related duties assigned by the residential development manager, project manager and C.M.H.C. coordinator

● Must be willing to take further training

● Responsible for entering inspection reports int the computer for submission to the manager for review

● Repairs and maintains doors, floors, windows, partitions, ceilings, and exteriors of buildings, doors and window framing

● Repairs and maintains hand tools, saw, power tools; installs locks, door knobs, and other building hardware

● Builds wooden structures such as partitions, buildings, office additions, fences, scaffolding, and does sheeting and rough carpentry on the buildings

● Preforms hand and bench work in carpentry workshop; operates planers, joiners, drill presses, power saws, sanders, and other woodworking machinery

● Installing cabinets, wooden flooring, siding, countertops, locks, knobs, hinges, and other fixtures to structures, which show that installing is often followed after the process of manufacturing a structure and furnishing pieces

● Observe safety regulations, wear helmet, and other prescribed protective uniforms

● Report promptly any problem or obstacle in the construction process to the foreman or supervisor for early resolution

● Accomplish and complete daily job accomplishment reports when required

● Cleaning equipment, shops, worksite areas, etc.

● Must be willing to lead and oversee apprentices and labourers

● Perform other related duties requested by the residential development manager, project manager, and C.M.H.C coordinator

Qualifications:

● Journeyman Certificate

● Minimum four years of construction experience in carpentry and other trade areas

● Other experience or training concerning the C.M.H.C. programs will be an asset

● Knowledge/ experience in computers and programming is an asset

● Ability to do paperwork and sketch effectively

● Must sign an Oath of Confidentiality. Required to maintain confidential information and office information

● Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License

● Provide a Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.

● May be subject to drug and alcohol test

● Priority given to Samson Cree Nation members

● May be subject to drug and alcohol testing
