Position: Small Business Officer-Department: Economic Development


Summary:

Under the direction of the Economic Development Manager, this position is primarily responsible for helping businesses with grant applications, and minor assistance in business plan writing. The small business officer is responsible for maintaining and growing client relationships, providing strong leadership, and driving business growth with a proactive approach.


Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide support for the Economic Development Manager,

· Collects, analyzes, and summarizes data for clients,

· Provide minor assistance to nation entrepreneurs; Advice, guidance, and training,

· Review grant application packages,

· Follow up on clientele,

· Develop and nurture your own client base with nation members,

· Regular planning, goal setting, and submission of progress reports,

· Applying for related grants,

· Research marketing data for business ideas,

· Maintain relations with organizations by networking with outside organizations,

· Review past files and reporting the status of operations

· Develop and implementation of small business development programs


Additional Responsibilities:

· Schedule meetings as required, report accordingly,

· Represent Samson Cree Nation at external meetings, forums, and workshops as assigned,

· Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with policies, standards, protocols, and procedures of Samson Cree Nation as directed,

· Contribute effectively as a team member to the overall plans and objectives of Samson Cree Nation,

· Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, and as assigned by the Economic Development Manager and/or the Business Development Senior manager.


Knowledge, Abilities and Qualifications:

· Strong knowledge of, and established connection in Maskwacis, Ponoka and Wetaskiwin; connections within the indigenous communities of Alberta are also valued,

· Experience working in indigenous communities and a demonstrated in-depth knowledge of indigenous worldviews, cultural practices, and protocols,

· Previous experience in economic or business development,

· Independent, motivated and able to work with minimal supervision,

· Excellent communication and presentation skills,

· Ability to record accurate notes, and record keeping,

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong active listening skills,

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain successful and effective relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts,

· Understands Samson Cree Nation culture, demonstrates cultural competency and sensitivity towards Samson Cree Nation cultural traditions with the ability to use sound judgment and diplomacy in high stress/conflict situations,

· Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times,

· Valid driver’s license

· Experience in similar field,

· Clear criminal record,

· Must submit a resume’,

· Ability to speak and understand the Cree language is considered an asset.
