FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT We currently have a full-time position available for a Financial Accountant in our Head Office located in Edmonton. Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for a wide variety of financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills and experience and can take on tasks with initiative and independence. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Accounting and Analysis o Assist in month-end process including timely and accurate completion of duties by specified deadlines. This includes the preparation of journal entries, completion of account reconciliations and completion of supporting working papers used in monthly reporting. o Provide value-added analysis in the assigned area of responsibility to assist managers and staff in operational decisions. o Participate in interim and year-end audits and implement internal audit improvements. o Complete daily bank clearing and monthly bank reconciliations on several bank accounts. o Complete the monthly accounting for the investment property subsidiary, monitor monthly reports as well as act as liaison between the property manager and Peace Hills. o Conduct special projects to provide advice and recommendations required by management. o Provide support to other team members by preparing supporting working papers used as part of their responsibilities. Reporting o Assist in the analysis and implementation of new accounting standards or regulatory requirements o Work as part of a larger team to provide monthly financial statements and related analyses and reports for management within tight reporting deadlines. o Prepare the yearly external financial statements, including note disclosures and work closely with the external auditors to finalize all year end reporting. o Accurately complete statutory filing well-ahead of reporting timeframes. o Assist in other reporting to authorized third-parties such as external auditors, industry organizations, tax authorities, reinsurers and credit agencies. o Assist in the coordination of monthly reinsurance reporting and the annual reinsurance renewal and data for the external independent actuary. o Prepare presentations, reporting packages and memos for the board and external parties. o Perform accounting research and prepare memos for company-relevant changes to accounting standards or treatment, as required. o Assist in the preparation of quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets and valuations. o Perform other duties as required including backing up other personnel in the department. Required Qualifications A professional accounting designation (CPA) is required. Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible accounting experience working with budgeting, forecasting, financial operations, reporting and analysis, and auditing. Previous experience in insurance or other financial services is considered an asset. Strong working knowledge of IFRS, including the ability to analyze and interpret accounting standards. Strong Excel skills with the ability to build and work with complex working papers. Strong problem-solving skills, accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills. Ability to meet multiple deadlines with strong time management and organizational skills Strong self-initiator with an ‘ownership’ attitude. Positive attitude and excellent ability to work independently and within a team in a dynamic environment, handling multiple tasks concurrently. Ability to process vast amounts of data efficiently and provide meaningful interpretations of data outputs. Ability to understand and analyze financial information; determine and mitigate risk. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft reports and memos that will be presented to the management team and/or external parties. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Evaluate and analyze quote requests to determine risk acceptability, policy terms and rates to process new business. Review and process renewals, endorsements, and cancellations. Analyze broker production reports. Provide underwriting advice and answer inquiries from brokers. Liaise with claims and accounting departments on mutual concerns. Visit brokers to communicate underwriting approaches, facilitating public relations efforts, and solving problems. Claims Advisor - Auto We currently have an opening for a Claims Advisor in Edmonton. This role involves investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling claims arising under the policy.
