The Director, Digital is a member of the senior leadership team, who are collectively responsible for the development and execution of the Company’s long term strategic plan. With a vision for the future, the Director will collaboratively set the strategic direction for the Digital portfolio, ensuring it will meet the demands of our growing business. As a valued member of the team, the Director will make a meaningful contribution to our growth initiatives, supporting products, projects and business ventures from an IT viewpoint. Peace Hills Insurance is going through a period of growth and transformation as we migrate from a legacy internally developed core insurance platform over to Guidewire Cloud. The Director, Digital Solutions will be responsible for modernizing our Software Development practices ensuring that we are able to effectively support the business’ evolving needs, meet our evolving regulatory requirements, and maximize the organization’s investment in enterprise platforms. What you will do: • Create a motivating work culture of exceptional customer service, high performance, continuous improvement, empowerment, collaboration, innovation, and out-of-the-box thinking by being a role model, setting expectations, encouraging team members, and celebrating wins. • Provide strong solution and architectural leadership to the Digital Team focused on enabling the organization to achieve its goals while leveraging our investments in existing platforms and technologies (e.g., Unit 4, Guidewire, AWS) • Create/enhance the existing processes, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, code reviews, unit testing, quality assurance testing (manual and automated), documentation, release management and other related processes to ensure the delivery of high quality, secure, resilient, reliable, observable, and available solutions. • Work closely with the business areas to understand their needs and identify how digital solutions can be applied to achieve their outcomes. • Work with other IT departments (e.g., CNI, cyber security, business intelligence) to enable production support, security reviews, releases, and understand downstream impacts. • Work with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate allocation of IT resources for successful timely delivery. • Provide oversight and direction to a Software Development Manager and a variety of direct reports. • Maintain strong awareness of upcoming capabilities of our existing platforms/technologies. • Monitor and stay abreast of advancements in the IT and insurance technology spaces, and bring those forward for consideration as business solutions. • Drive the IT Digital portfolio forward, bringing a creative approach to solving problems and out-ofthe-box thinking. • Participate in strategic planning with the senior leadership team to assist in establishing PHI’s overall strategic objectives. • Work with the VP, IT to design and publish the technology roadmap for major components (e.g., Unit 4, Guidewire, etc.) that achieves PHI’s overall strategic objectives while balancing the needs of the business, regulatory requirements, and internal requirements (e.g., technical debt maintenance). • Demonstrate engagement in the insurance industry by participating in industry groups and developing strategic relationships and partnerships. • Ensure alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., OFSI B-13, PCI Compliance, etc.) What skills and experience are required: • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a combination of equivalent education and experience. • 15+ years’ experience in Software Development including 10+ years of experience leading software development teams • Experience on Agile/Scrum teams • In-depth knowledge of software engineering principles and processes including DevSecOps, CICD pipeline, test and quality automation strategy, secure coding practices and operations management along with the ability to apply this knowledge to execute projects and optimize strategies. • Strong production support and software delivery experience • .Net / Java / Gosu / Jutro experience • Preference for experience working in the Canadian Insurance Industry and the applicable Canadian Regulatory Environment • Preference for experience working with Guidewire • Experience with Guidewire Cloud is a strong asset • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, software design patterns, software testing methodologies and tools, SDLC, CI/CD, and other best practices • Experience with agile SDLC processes and tools, including Jira and Bitbucket or equivalent • Strong skills in critical thinking, decision-making, problem solving, and attention to detail • Operations management in software engineering and infrastructure. • Strong overall technologist who has a passion for learning and growing every day WORKING AT PEACE HILLS INSURANCE Peace Hills understands that by reducing work-life struggles, individuals can enjoy a healthier lifestyle while improving productivity at work.
