SUMMARY:

The Counselor works under the supervision of the Treatment Supervisor. The Counselor functions with a high degree of independence, flexibility and integrity to help promote positive living skills and reduce the negative impact of alcohol and drug abuse. The Counselor maintains patient care, a caseload of 1 to 4 clients. The Counselor delivers and conducts lectures, group work and one-to-one counseling.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

· Good written and oral communication skills.

· Willing to take training as required.

· Knowledge and experience in traditional and contemporary healing practices and experience in working with Elders, Healers and clinicians.

· A demonstrated positive role model for staff, clients and the communities at large.

· Must be willing to travel

· Must be willing to participate in the Accreditation process

· Must be from 4 Nations of Maskwacis

GENERAL REQUIREMENT:

· Minimum of two (2) years sobriety.

· Must possess a current First Aid and CPR Certificate.

· Provide a criminal and Child Welfare Information System (CWIS) check, as required.

· Ability to speak a First Nations language would be an asset.

· Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions would be an asset.

· Willingness to take training as required.

· Must maintain client confidentiality

· Valid driver’s license and submit a driver abstract.

· Must sign an Oath of Confidentiality, Conflict of Interest form and a Code of Conduct form.

· MUST BE COMMITTED
