Position: Addictions Counselor - Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre

Reports to: Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre Coordinator (Wetaskiwin)


SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Samson Cree Nation Community Wellness department and the supervision of the Kitimâkehtowin coordinator, the addictions counsellor will provide one-on-one and group counseling, crisis intervention, and support for individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. The counsellor will also will perform assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches


RESPONSIBILITIES;

· Offer ongoing support and referrals, connect clients and families to community resources, and advocate for awareness and reduced stigma.

· Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and other agencies to support holistic recovery and well-being in a community context.

· Conduct thorough initial assessments, including case histories, to understand clients’ specific addiction challenges, strengths, and potential for change.

· Develop and implement customized, evidence-based treatment plans for individuals and families, integrating trauma-informed and culturally appropriate approaches.

· Provide individual and group therapy, lead skill-building and prevention programs, and facilitate crisis intervention services.

· Refer clients and families to a wide range of community resources, including housing, employment, medical, financial, and legal assistance, and other social services.

· Foster community awareness, reduce stigma surrounding addiction, and collaborate with local agencies, healthcare providers, and community groups.

· Monitor client progress, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and provide aftercare support and follow-up.

· Serve as an advocate for quality care and provide education and consultation on addiction issues to professionals and the public.

· Prepare accurate and timely reports, including progress notes, assessment summaries, and discharge summaries.


Education/Experience:

➔ Diploma/Degree in Addictions Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.

➔ Experience working with vulnerable populations, trauma-informed care, and individuals with substance use disorders is essential.

➔ Strong ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse community partners and within multi-disciplinary teams.

➔ Excellent verbal and written communication skills using computer programs for report writing and client management.

➔ Knowledge of Indigenous cultural supports and healing traditions.

Position: Receptionist/ Office Assistant - Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre

Reports to: Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre Coordinator (Wetaskiwin)


SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Samson Cree Nation Community Wellness department and the supervision of the Kitimâkehtowin coordinator, the receptionist/ Office Assistant will be the first point of contact for clients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and supportive safe environment. While providing administrative and clerical support to ensure smooth daily operations of the center.


RESPONSIBILITIES;

· Extend a warm and professional greeting to all guests and visitors, providing general information to the public.

· Answer inquiries and direct visitors and callers to the appropriate personnel.

· Control access to the building by monitoring visitor logs and issuing badges.

· Filing, scanning, and organizing physical and digital documents, as well as maintaining efficient filing systems. Ordering and restocking office supplies and maintaining inventory.

· Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail, packages, and deliveries.

· Performing data entry and maintaining spreadsheets, databases, or client files. Scheduling meetings, appointments, and maintaining calendars for staff or senior members.

· Operating office equipment such as photocopiers, printers, and fax machines.

· Typing, preparing, and formatting various documents, including memos, reports, and letters. Assisting in the creation of reports, presentations, and spreadsheets for internal use.

· Recording, updating, and maintaining company records and various documents

· Assist with financial tracking, invoicing, and supply management.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Samson Cree Nation Community Wellness department and the supervision of the Kitimâkehtowin coordinator, the case manager will support the Addictions counsellors to conduct client intake and assessments, develop and implement personalized treatment plans, and provide ongoing individual and group counselling using harm reduction and recovery-oriented approaches.


RESPONSIBILITIES;

· Perform comprehensive client intake and assess strengths, needs, and barriers related to mental health and substance use issues.

· Develop individualized, client-centered case plans with recovery and treatment goals. Maintain accurate and confidential client files and documentation.

· Ensure program and client approaches are evidence-based, using principles of harm reduction and trauma-informed strategies.

· Ensure clients have access to supports, programs that will offer opportunities to develop coping skills and build a support network for recovery.

· Offer emotional and practical support, and advocate for clients to access necessary resources and services. Liaise and build relationships with internal Friendship Centre programs and external community partners, including primary care and social service providers.

· Participate in case conferences and team meetings to ensure integrated and effective service delivery. Facilitate smooth transitions for clients between services and into the community.

· Contribute to the development and evaluation of programs to promote mental health and addiction awareness and prevention.

· Work to reduce health disparities among vulnerable populations, ensuring services are culturally appropriate and relevant.

Education/Experience:

· Diploma/Degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Samson Cree Nation Community Wellness department and the supervision of the Kitimâkehtowin coordinator, the Outreach Worker will connect with the indigenous population who reside in Wetaskiwin with vital resources and support, such as mental health, addiction, and cultural services, by building trust, coordinating programs, and promoting healthy lifestyles through community engagement.


RESPONSIBILITIES;

· Build rapport and trust with individuals from vulnerable populations, including Indigenous communities, and connect them with available programs and resources.

· Implement and coordinate wellness and healing strategies, especially those related to mental health, addictions, and culture-based programming,

· Identify and assess the wellness and outreach needs of the community, providing referrals to culturally appropriate services and support.

· Act as an advocate for community members to ensure their needs are met by existing systems and services. Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress, and service referrals.

· Work collaboratively with community members, partner organizations, and the Friendship Centre's staff and management.

· Develop and implement outreach plans, maintain client records, collaborate with service providers, and act as an advocate for community members, requiring skills in communication, empathy, and cultural competency.

· Understanding and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, with a strong knowledge of the Indigenous community's needs.

· A compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting individuals facing social and psychological challenges.

· Engage with individuals in the community who are at risk or actively struggling with substance use, providing immediate support, resources, and pathways to recovery.


Education/Experience:

· Education related to human services with experience in outreach, peer support, or front-line social services.

· Knowledge of harm reduction, crisis response, and Indigenous wellness approaches.

· Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

· Lived experience with recovery is considered an asset.

Position: Housing Navigator - Kitimâkehtowin Friendship Centre

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Samson Cree Nation Community Wellness department and the supervision of the Kitimâkehtowin coordinator, the Housing Navigator helps clients secure and maintain safe, stable, and affordable housing as part of their recovery journey. The Housing Navigator will assist Indigenous individuals in Wetaskiwin to find and secure stable, affordable housing by connecting them with community resources and providing ongoing support


RESPONSIBILITIES;

· Create and manage housing plans, conducting intake and client assessment, facilitating referrals, offering advocacy, and building relationships with landlords and other community service providers to improve housing stability and self-sufficiency.

· Work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability to help them establish and achieve individualized housing goals and create housing plans.

· Provide clients with information and referrals to relevant community resources, including shelters, housing programs, and other social support services.

· Act as a liaison and advocate for clients within various systems, such as the housing market or other social services, to ensure fair treatment and access to resources.

· Assist clients with the logistics of securing housing, which may include finding available units, arranging property viewings, and helping with the application process.

· Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including intake and discharge forms, and ensure adherence to agency policies and procedures.

· Foster positive relationships with landlords, housing providers, and other community partners to expand housing options and resources for clients.

· Provide support and de-escalation during housing-related crises or other emergent situations that may arise for clients.

· Ability to work effectively with vulnerable populations, especially Indigenous individuals and families, with an understanding of their specific needs and challenges.
