(KKI) is setting a foundation for future success by establishing our own culturally appropriate children services legal system to protect the individual and collective rights of Ermineskin Cree Nation children, youth, families and members residing off-reserve. Through self-determination and collaboration with the community, KKI helps shape the preservation and revitalization of our Cree language, cultural identity and community wellbeing. KKI is located in central Maskwacis, Alberta which is a part of Treaty Six Territory.

About the Role Currently undergoing a period of growth and restructuring, Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. is recruiting a member for the Board of Directors to advocate, govern, oversee policy, assist with the leadership and general promotion of connections between children, culture, language for youth, children and families receiving program services of Ermineskin Cree Nation. This individual will work with a team of six (6) other Board Members, working directly with and supervising the Chief Executive Officer of KKI. The Board of Directors reports to the Ermineskin Chief and Council on KKI’s behalf and liaison good working relationships with others. Who we are Looking for? We are seeking a progressive, innovative and team minded professional. The successful applicant will need to have experience and education related to Child and Family Services and knowledge related to Bill C-92 (Indigenous/Natural Laws). Must understand the Cultural perspectives and dynamics of the Nehiyaw ways of life. Understanding the sensitivity of Child and Family Services exposure related discussions maintaining a high standard of Confidentiality.

Credentials Must have five (5) years previous Committee/Board experience and or training. Post Secondary Educational background. Minimum ten (10) years work-related experience in Child and Family Services. Knowledge of Children Services Program Service Delivery models. Experienced professional who can bring past or related expertise of Child and Family Services. Knowledge of the community of Ermineskin and Cree Culture/language is required. Fluency in Maskwacis Cree will be considered an asset.

Requirements A valid driver’s license and possession of a personal vehicle is essential. To meet the organizations compliance for working with vulnerable persons in instances such as organizational events, a successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Intervention Record check must be provided.
