POSITION: Business Development Senior Manager

DEPARTMENT: Business Development

Summary:

Under the direction of the Band Administrator, the Business Development Senior Manager will be responsible for the planning, development, coordination and implementation of the business development functions of the Samson Cree Nation. The Business Development Senior Manager will play an important role in the development of the Samson Cree Nation’s business strategy with important duties and responsibilities that will lead to the achievement of both short and long-term goals. The Business Development Senior Manager will assist in the management, development and coordination of internal and external projects that fall under the business development pillar, as well future partnerships and joint ventures. Also, implementing and maintaining the programs, policies, and procedures established by the Chief and Council of the Samson Cree Nation.

JOB DUTIES:

· Works closely with the Business Development Committee in contributing to the creation and implementation of best practice, vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid in the development of a sound economic and business development strategy for Samson Cree Nation.

· Undertakes the preparation and implementation of a business development strategic action plan.

· Provides overall coordination and oversight for the implementation of various projects and activities that are contained in the business development work plan, oversees and participates in writing business concept designs, business plans, proposals or feasibility studies, provides due diligence on business analytics including conducting research, analysis, planning and evaluation of various business opportunities or economic projects.

· Conducts research, prepares proposals, and completes final reports for potential funding or grants for business development, economic initiatives or partnership and/or joint ventures on behalf of Samson Cree Nation.

· Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance business and economic interests of Samson Cree Nation.

· Oversees the design of various business development projects that include identifying the project scope, financial management, timelines, key activities and deliverables and milestones as requested.

· Provide management and administrative support to the Business Development pillar managers and staff in the establishment of a positive, healthy and safe working environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.

· To assist the Business Development pillar in supervising and providing direction to Program Managers/Coordinators, and support staff.

· To assist the Business Development pillar in monitoring programs to ensure that policies and procedures established by Chief and Council are maintained.

· To assist the Business Development pillar Committee with planning for regular Committee meetings.

· To provide the Business Development Committee with reports from the Business Development staff to be presented to Chief and Council.

· Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning; monitoring; and appraising job results; coaching, counselling, and disciplining staff; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems; policies, procedures and productivity standards.

· To foster effective and efficient team work between all programs and services.

· To assist in assuring that the programs overseen are within budget and that planning and rationalizations for activities are a prerequisite.

· Assisting in maintaining quality services by enforcing quality of care standards for Samson Cree Nation as an organization and for the benefit of Nation members; analyzing and resolving service problems; identifying trends; recommending system improvements.

· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending approved educational workshops and professional development seminars.

· To assist in arranging the discussion and solution of program issues with the Business Development Committee and Program Managers/Coordinators as required.

· To assist with tasks as requested by the Business Development Committee.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of Samson Cree Nation.

· Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to Samson Cree Nation governance.

· Knowledge of human resource management, financial management and project management.

· Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation.

· Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, email and internet.

· Demonstrate competence in the following areas:

SKILLS:

· Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, in diverse range of audience and settings, persuasion and negotiation of conflict and problems

· Interpreting legal documents and government policy and regulation, evaluating fiscal and financial reports, forms and dates, analyzing complex written documents, identifying and resolving administrative problems, and delegating responsibility and achieving results, and maintaining order in an environment of changing priorities

EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:

· University Degree in a related field

· Five or more years of progressive management experience

· Management experience performing responsible general administrative work with knowledge in Finance and Personnel administration

· Submit resume, certificates, copy of driver’s license.

· Must have a Valid Class 5 Drivers License

· Must submit a clear criminal records check.

· Ability to understand and speak Cree fluently.

· Must have excellent inter-personal and communication skills and must be capable of working independently possessing a well-organized and flexible management style.
