Position: (2) Status Restoration Outreach Coordinators
(Temporary – to the end of fiscal year)
Reports to: Assistant Band Administrator
Purpose:
The Status Restoration Outreach Coordinators are two temporary positions tasked with
the following:
· To identify and support individuals with 6(2) status (or at risk of losing status) and
work toward restoring or upgrading their status through coordinated application
processes.
· To provide hands-on support with gathering documentation, making
appointments, and ensuring applications are complete and submitted in a timely
manner.
· To advocate for and empower Nation members by ensuring they are informed of
their status rights, especially those impacted by the second-generation cut-off.
· To bridge communication between Nation members, the Band Registrar Agent,
and ISC to fast-track applications and ensure full processing for eligible individuals.
Key Duties:
· Travel to SCN’s communities (Mameo, Smallboys Camp, etc.) and urban centres
to meet with individuals/families.
· Assess eligibility for status restoration or upgrading under recent legislative
changes (e.g., Bill S-3).
· Assist individuals in completing secure and accurate applications for registration
or amendments.
· Work with the Band Registrar Agent and ISC Regional Office for application
submission.
· Maintain records of those served and follow up on application progress.
· Offer workshops on the implications of 6(2) vs. 6(1) status.
· Schedule and coordinate community-based “Status Clinics” with the Band Office.
· Help members collect essential documentation (birth certificates, ID, lineage).
· Offer translation or plain language explanations of the Indian Act sections.
· Provide status education and outreach in schools or community centers.
· Work closely with Elders to support intergenerational documentation and family
trees.
· Identify and track cases where families may be at risk of status loss.
· Offer mobile appointments in homes, shelters, or off-reserve housing.
· Partner with cultural knowledge keepers and Elders to affirm Nation-based
identity alongside federal status work.
· Advocate with ISC and assist in escalations where applications are delayed or
denied unfairly.
· Help members understand dual membership (status vs Nation membership
rights).
· Act as a go-between for the community and federal agencies.
· Set up private spaces within community halls or schools for intake days.
· Schedule ISC presence in the Nation (on specific dates) for in-person
verifications.
· Train local community volunteers or workers to continue the work post-project.
· Track and report application success rates and barriers.
Requirements/Qualifications:
· Post-Secondary Education in the following related fields: business,
management, finance and/or accounting.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent analytical problem-solving, time management and leadership skills.
· Exceptional negotiation and decision-making skills.
· Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
· Extremely organized with great attention to detail.
· Enjoys working with numbers.
· Technology savvy.
· Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
· Ability to adapt to change with a positive attitude.
· The successful applicant will be required to obtain and submit a Criminal Record Check after hired.
