POSITION: HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS

Summary:

Under the direction of the Public Works Manager, the Heavy Equipment Operator maintains and operates heavy equipment.


Duties and Responsibilities:

· From 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. walk around inspection on all heavy equipment.

· Responsibility for the maintenance of his grader ex: grease job, oil change, and filter change every 250 hours.

· Fills in daily time sheets, other duties performed ex: grading main roads, driveways, washing machine, changing tires, changing blades and greasing and maintaining Heavy Equipment.

· Must read operators and maintenance manuals for the operator is responsible for maintaining daily, weekly and monthly checks and grease intervals with up to date maintenance documentation.

· Must learn how to maintain road tops for proper crown and gain the knowledge of snow removal techniques for different households. Ex: so that windrow is away from house.

· Be aware of your section and note which roads need immediate attention (soft spots) and which roads need weekly attention. Also, roads that may need gravel.

· Check your section for damaged or missing sign, garbage or obstruction on the roads which may pose a hazard. Ex: mufflers, rocks, boards, also areas that may need a snow fence or brushing.

· Must be willing to work overtime when required. Heavy rain falls and blizzards require serious immediate attention with operators working around the clock urgency to ensure that the roads are in safe driving condition with the shortest reasonable amount of time.

· Responsible for learning how to assist in changing blades, wings, v, plow, rippers, cable, sheer pins, seized nipples, light fuses, air and fuel filter, wipers, tires, tire chains, prime a diesel engine, tighten belts, hoses, fluid checks and test.

· Must submit daily logs to Foreman and weekly log to Manager's discretion.

· Must be willing to cross train.

Qualifications:

· Must submit Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate.

· Must have a valid Class 3 and/or Class 1 driver’s license.

· Must have the capability to operate all heavy equipment.

· Must Submit a resume, application, copy of driver’s license, clear criminal record check.

· Willingness to work on weekends or after hours.

· Must be willing to take training where available.

· Must be subject to alcohol and drug testing.

Position: Site Attendant (2) – Three Mile Waste Transfer Station

Department: Public Works


Job Summary:

Samson Cree Nation is currently seeking a local Samson community member who is a qualified individual interested in being a Site Attendant at the newly constructed Three Mile Waste Transfer Station, The Site Attendant is the first and last point of contact for people entering and leaving the Station.


Duties and Responsibility:

· Overseeing the operation if the Transfer Station and being responsible for ensuring in its upkeep and state of cleanliness;

· Directing users on where and how to properly drop off diverted waste (i.e. tires, mattresses, e-waste, used oil, hazardous waste, bulky metals/white goods, etc.) into the proper designated storage areas and providing assistance with unloading, pouring, etc.

· Assisting with placing of permitted household waste into the compaction trailer or other designated receptacles;

· Assuring that waste brought to the station meets the standards for disposal at the Station;

· Operating the hydraulic compaction trailer and managing trailer loads on a daily basis;

· Performing grounds maintenance at the station, such as grass cutting, snow removal and picking up and properly placing any waste that was misplaced or blown about the Station or left at the gate;

· Coordinating the removal of diverting wastes (i.e. Tires, mattresses, e-waste, used oil, hazardous wastes, bulky materials/white goods, etc.) from the Station prior to each area designated storage area from becoming overfilled – this includes coordinating pick-ups, packaging items, filling out associated paperwork, searching for receivers, etc.

· Cleaning the site and equipment on a regular basis, including loose waste and spills;

· Maintaining daily site logs of waste entering and leaving the station;

· Performing routine maintenance checks on machinery (e.g., engine check, oil check, etc.);

· Complying with all the safe work practices and hazardous waste standards;

· Operating site equipment such as a lawnmower or skid steer loader as required;

· Maintaining log books and preparing simple reports;

· Participating in and attending regularly scheduled training courses;

· Assisting with waste collection and/or hauling goods off-site, as required;

· Being an ambassador or proper waste management and disposal in the community including speaking at community events, providing education to the community including school visits, etc; and

· Any other duties as required.

· May encounter various unwanted pests, dead animals on the worksite.

· Able to withstand hot / cold temperatures depending on the season.


Work Environment

While performing duties of this job, the Site Attendant, may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. They may be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in an outdoor work environment with extreme temperatures. The noise level in with environment and job sites can be loud.

The individual will be provided with training in operations of the various equipment on site and must have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.


Qualified candidates should have:

· An interest in environmental or civil engineering, waste management or heavy equipment operations;

· A high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED);

· Strong coordination and organizational skills;

· Attention to detail and accuracy;

· Good written and verbal communication skills; and

· Determination to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines.

· Must be willing to do alcohol and drug testing

· Must submit a clear criminal record check
