POSITION: HOUSING INSPECTOR-DEPARTMENT: RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Residential Development Manager, the Housing Inspector is responsible for the inspection of all new housing and general house repair projects. The Housing Inspector will enforce the requirements of the National Building Code, National Fire Code and National Electrical Code.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Performs general house inspections on all housing units and projects.
· Assists in the supervision of contractors who are under the New Housing and general house repair projects.
· Report on the progress of jobs, and recommend contract payments when jobs are completed on schedule.
· Ensure all work is completed and deficiencies are corrected before the release of holdback payments of contracts.
· Participates in the implementation of policy specifications every year.
· Attend meetings with the Manager or Samson Cree Nation Chief and Council if required to do so.
· Must adhere to the latest National Building Code: Alberta Edition.
· Performs housing unit pre-inspections for submission report to ISC and CMHC.
· Must be willing to undergo additional job-specific training.
· Responsible for writing inspection reports for submission to the Residential Development Manager.
· Provides scope of work for projects as required.
· Performs other related duties as assigned by the Residential Development Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum four (4) years of residential construction experience in carpentry and other trade areas, or an inspection certificate.
· Must have a valid Class 5 Drivers' License.
· Must have strong interpersonal skills
· Must be willing to sign the oath of confidentiality
· Must have own transportation.
· Other experience or training in relation to the CMHC programs will be an asset.
· May be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
· If selected, must submit a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
