Governance-Position: Tribal Law Enforcement Project Manager-Reports to: Assistant Band Administrator


Purpose:

The Project Manager’s primary objective will be to thoroughly explore and assess the potential for Tribal law enforcement within the Samson Cree Nation. This role will involve developing a comprehensive five-year strategic plan that lays the foundation for an effective and sustainable law enforcement framework. The plan will initially focus on the implementation of Peace Officers, with a long-term vision of transitioning to a fully operational Tribal Police service within five to eight years. Through careful research, community engagement, and collaboration with key stakeholders, the Project Manager will ensure that the plan aligns with the needs, values, and governance structures of the Samson Cree Nation.


The office will be based at the Samson Cree Nation Administration Building, with the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. However, a minimum of three days per week of in-office presence is required to ensure effective collaboration, engagement, and accessibility.


Key Duties:

· Developing detailed project work plans & proposals as required.

· Organize, facilitate and attend community meetings.

· Monthly updates to the Tribal Policing committee.

· Liaising with provincial and federal governments, as well as justice system stakeholders, to explore the development of Tribal law enforcement for the Samson Cree Nation. This Includes working closely with the Crown Attorney, Defense Attorneys, and other justice actors to negotiate options that align with the community’s needs and legal traditions.

· Ensure the development and implementation of appropriate protocols and

policies/procedures with Tribal Law Enforcement.

· Participate in staff meetings, professional development and training.

· Abide by the Samson Cree Nation Human Resources Policies.


Requirements/Qualifications:

· Certificate and/or Diploma in Justice Field or related discipline.

· Experience collaborating with justice system stakeholders, including the Crown, law

enforcement agencies, and court officials, within the legal field.

· Experience in managing, planning, coordinating and organizing work projects.

· Highly effective interpersonal skills – must be a team player, maintain an awareness of challenges facing Indigenous communities on the issues of justice.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent conflict resolution skills, management and coordination skills.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Excellent organizational skills.

· Excellent time management skills.

· Current and valid License.

· Ability to work with confidential and highly sensitive and personal information.

· Proven ability to work with First Nation communities and people.

· Ability to understand and speak Cree is a definite asset.

· Must provide a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Must provide a clear Child Welfare Check.
