Dean of Indigenous Social Work
Summary The Dean of Indigenous Social Work is responsible for coordinating, facilitating and quality control of the Indigenous Social Work program. This typically includes strategic planning, budgeting and allocation of funds, implementation strategies and observing and evaluating program faculty in the classroom. The dean works closely with instructors and other staff to ensure all academic goals are being met and the curriculum is appropriate and up to date, and reflects the culture and values of the Indigenous community.
The Dean will act upon the advice, requests, and direction provided by the President, Elders, Board of Governors, Faculty and Students.
The Dean is required to provide direct instructional services to students. Dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service, the dean is expected to cultivate strong alumni and external relationships to support and grow the college; have a vision to expand the Indigenous Education as the academic center of excellence for Maskwacis with the experience and ability to support and implement innovative instruction appropriate for a twenty first century Indigenous College. Work collaboratively with education programs at other Indigenous campuses to create innovative initiatives, certifications and degree programs; will collaboratively create and implement both short- and long-term strategic goals consistent with the college’s and university’s mission and vision: is responsible for supervision and implementation of assessment and accreditation standards.
Job Duties
• Provide educational and academic leadership for excellence in teaching and learning within the program
• Develop Policies and Procedures for the Indigenous Social Work program
• Ensure all accreditation criteria is being met for the Indigenous Social Work program and seek out accreditation where appropriate
• Work with teachers and staff to create admission criteria for the program and recruit students to the program
• Develop resources to support the program including fundraising and grant writing
• Promote the program in the community and raise the profile of the program with prospective students, donors, communities, and related social work programs
• Direct, manage, supervise and coordinate the activities of the Indigenous Social Work program.
• Develop and coordinate program and course schedules in response to the needs of students
• Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures
• Oversee and direct hiring of full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and full and part time staff for the program
• Plan and implement full time faculty and adjunct faculty teaching assignments
• Conduct regular evaluation of full-time faculty in accordance with the MCC's personnel policies Provide or coordinate staff training within the program
• Work with employees to correct deficiencies
• Oversee and facilitate the programs review process to support institutional planning, budgets, technology, and other goals as set by the Board of Governors
• Any other duties assigned.
Requirements
• An earned master’s or doctorate in Social Work from a regionally or internationally accredited institution combined with a teaching and scholarship record that will qualify the candidate for appointment as a full professor in a department in the Indigenous Social Work.
• Registrared with Alberta College Social Workers (ACSW).
• Experience in effective Fundraising and applying for grants
• Excellent writing and interpreting reports and data and computer skills
• In addition to the minimum qualifications the ideal candidate will have five years of responsible education related experience including two years of teaching experience; preferably in a community college environment
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and develop relationships and partnerships within the College and business community.
• Demonstrated strategic planning experience.
• Documented experience with budgets and personnel management.
• Knowledge in education accreditation standards and agencies.
• Demonstrated experience with distance learning programs.
• Knowledge of supports within the Four Nations.
• Ability to build rapport with Students, Peers and Faculty.
• Flexibility and Adaptability.
• Strong organizational skill set.
• Clear criminal record.
• Access to own vehicle/transportation.
• Willing to adhere to an oath of confidentiality.

Community Learning Coordinator
Summary: Maskwacis Cultural College is seeking a Community Learning Coordinator for their Social Work program.
The position will commence once a suitable candidate is secured and will be mentored by the Dean of Indigenous Social Work faculty. The Social Work Diploma program is the entry credential for social work practice in Alberta and graduates are eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
The responsibilities of the Community Learning Coordinator include but are not limited to:
• Overseeing the Community Learning Coordinator requirements of all social work students;
• Establishing partnership relationships with relevant agencies and field supervisors; • Ensure required Community Learning Coordinator documentation is in place.
• Engaging and guiding students in their field education journeys,
• Participating in research opportunities as applicable.
• Ensure Community Learning Coordinator dispute resolution process
• Any other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
• Must have a Master of Social Work education credential or assessed equivalency, significant social work experience and be registered or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers;
• Must have extensive understanding and commitment for issues affecting Indigenous peoples; this knowledge and practice base is a priority for all candidates;
• Strong organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to speak an Indigenous language
• Demonstrated experience with distance learning programs.
• Knowledge of supports within the Four Nations.
• Flexibility and Adaptability.
• Access to own vehicle/transportation.
• Willing to adhere to an oath of confidentiality.
